Your Co-op Today
Competitive Choice
The Co-operative Board has been given a clear mandate by the Membership to expand shopping choice within the Barossa. It is well acknowledged that there is considerable shopping leakage out of the Barossa due to the appeal of larger city shopping centres to the south. The challenge for us is drive our own Co-op retail divisions while introducing other complementary tenants to our shopping mix to strengthen the Barossa as a credible shopping destination of choice. Attracting new tenants is no easy task as the local Wine industry and corresponding retail market face some of the toughest market conditions on record.
In spite of these conditions the Co-operative operates five successful retail stores and is about to embark on a fashion store reinvention with the relocation of three fashion departments from the aging Department store into state of the art fashion boutiques in the Barossa Mall. The Department store will then convert to a significant homewares centre to service the growing housing expansion in the Barossa
The Co-operative now nurtures over 20 tenants who positively impact on the shopping experience in the Barossa. And there are more stores planned over the next year.
As we plan our involvement in the 2012 International year of the Co-operative we reflect on the last 67 years of positive co-operation in the Barossa.
